2021 Hyland Vineyard Pinot Noir

2021 Hyland Vineyard Pinot Noir

$50.00

This McMinnville AVA vineyard was first established in 1972.  The fruit is from a block of Coury clone planted in 1989. The clone is known as a “suitcase clone” as it was originally smuggled into the country from Colmar, Alsace by Charles Coury in 1964.  Charles Coury is one of the Willamette Valley’s original wine industry pioneers and this clone is his legacy.  These vines sit at about 600 feet in elevation and slope gently to the SW.  In 2021 the clusters were clean, small, with balanced ripeness.  Primary fermentation included 35% whole cluster in small lot one ton fermenters utilizing native yeast. The free run and gentle press wine then spent ten months élevage in neutral French oak barrels.
